Are You a Dung Lover?

Bible Verse to Read: Philippians 3:8

I spent three years working on a farm and by far the worst job I had to do was to shovel the barns out from what the cows, pigs, sheep, and goats had left behind.  It stank, attracted flies, and was all in all nasty.  In all of that time I never once said to myself, “Hey, I should take some of this stuff home!”  We never had to lock the barn up for fear of people stealing the cow “stuff”.  That’s because it was dung.  There’s not much use for dung and certainly there isn’t much value in dung.

As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Philippi he made an amazing comparison between the best that life had to offer and Jesus Christ. Under the inspiration of God he stated that when compared to Jesus Christ everything that he had given up in this world had the value of dung. From a worldly perspective Paul had given up quite a bit. He had a good education, he had risen to a position of prominence in hisreligion and yet when he compared it to knowing Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour it was just so much dung.

Let me ask you a very pointed question young person: what value do you place on your Saviour?  Is He the most important thing in your life?  If He asked you to give up one of your friends, or your favorite music artist would you do it for Him?  Compared to Him does everything else have the value of dung in our lives?  You can only truly love one thing in this life and I for one sure don’t want to be considered someone who loves anything more that Jesus Christ.
